Evans and Rovanpera close to a new contract with Toyota

The team principal of Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT, Jari-Matti Latvala, unveils that the negotiations between Toyota and Kalle Rovanpera/Elfyn Evans proceed normally closing to an extension of their contract.

Sebastien Ogier announced that he will probably do a part-time programme next year and he is willing to continue his partneship with Toyota.

Therefore, the Japanese team is looking to keep Evans and Rovanpera in the team next season and is searching for another driver to compete with a part-time programme alongside Ogier.

The two possible options for the third car are Esapekka Lappi and Teemu Suninen while Dani Sordo may extend his contract with Hyundai.

Lappi was a former driver of Toyota (2017-2018) and he took his first ever win in WRC back in 2017 when he was driving a Toyota Yaris WRC.

On the contrary, Suninen was always a M-Sport driver and, according to Richard Millener's recent quotes, he will possibly continue to be in the British squad in 2022.

"Let's say that we have had very good negotiations and very positive negotiations with Elfyn and with Kalle, but at this point I can't confirm their contracts," said Latvala, when asked about the team's plans by Motorsport.com.

"This we will have to see later so things on that side are not finalised but everything is looking very good.

"Seb said very clearly after Safari that he is not going to do the full season so he could be doing half a season or less so we will need to get the calendar out to clarify which events he would like to do.

"We have been talking about that driver to have, that second driver for that car, and I have mentioned that Lappi and Suninen are options but on that side I can't clarify anything at the moment."
