M-Sport thinking to compete with three cars in a 2021 race

The team principal of M-Sport Ford, Richard Millener, states that there is possibility for his team to run with three drivers on one event of WRC this season with the aim to decide its line-up for 2022.

The British team has chosen to compete with two cars this year, with Gus Greensmith being the main driver of M-Sport and with Adrien Fourmaux and Teemu Suninen sharing the second car.

It is believed that Andreas Mikkelsen will drive the third car of the team at Rally Finland who is currently competing in WRC2 category with the private team Toksport.

The Norwegian driver has participated in five events in WRC2 so far and it is rumoured that Acropolis Rally Greece will be the sixth race for him this year.

"We do have a third chassis", Millener told DirtFish.

"Running as third car is a lot of budget, but if Malcolm was willing to allocate that budget, it could be an interesting way to look at driver selection.

"We’ll have a look at that one later in the year – we’ll see how the year progresses first and see when we’ve got more of an idea of what we’re looking at for the driver line-up and the plan for 2022".
