Malcolm Wilson shares the next season's plan for M-Sport Ford which is to compete with three drivers in 2022 Championship and this plan depends on the team's budget.
The British team currently competes only with two drivers instead of three drivers while Hyundai and Toyota field three Rally1 cars for the WRC events.
Gus Greensmith is the main driver of M-Sport Ford with Teemu Suninen and Adrien Fourmaux sharing the second car of the team in WRC rounds.
However, Ford Performance has supported M-Sport more in the development of 2022 hybrid car in comparison with the last years and that means that the team of Wilson will have more budget next year.
It is suspected that Andreas Mikkelsen, Esapekka Lappi and Craig Breen are the potential candidates for the seat in M-Sport's car while the future of Greensmith and Suninen remains unknown.
"That is the target to stand chance of winning the manufacturer's championship you definitely need to be running three cars particular with new technology and new cars coming in to have that backup and support", Wilson told Motorsport.com.
"Obviously a lot of it will come down to budget and where we can be and the target is to run three".
Moreover, Wilson talked about the driver line-up of M-Sport for 2022 admitting that Adrien Fourmaux will continue to be part of the team: "The only one that is definite at the moment is Adrien, for sure.
"In an ideal world if we can get everything pulled together then we would like to try and run three cars, but I'm not in a position at the moment to say we have definitely got Adrien in place.
"The other ones [drivers] will fall into line in the next couple of months".
