Esapekka Lappi announced today via his Twitter account that he will make his return in the main category of WRC with Toyota Gazoo Racing at this year's Rally Finland.
As DirtFish.com reported on previous Tuesday, Lappi was set to join the four regulars drivers of Toyota in Finland driving a Yaris WRC there.
The Finn driver stayed out of WRC at the end of 2020 and he took part in two events this season in WRC2 category with the private team Movisport.
However, it is tipped that Lappi will rejoin Toyota next year as Sebastien Ogier will retire from WRC and he may compete in a selected number of events in 2022, therefore the Japanese team is looking for a third driver who will share the third Rally1 car with the seven-time World Rally Driver Champion of WRC.
"I'm very happy Lappi to be at the start line of Rally Finland with Yaris WRC", Lappi posted on Twitter.
"It's nice to return to WRC and working with Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT, we've had some very good moments together, feels like coming back home.
"Big thanks for this opportunity to my sponsors and management".
