The team principal of Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT, Jari-Matti Latvala, wants to spend some time testing the next year's Toyota Yaris GR in winter with the intention of understanding how the car works with the hybrid technology.
The hybrid Yaris was mainly developed and tested by Juho Hanninen who also developed the current Rally1 car of the Japanese team before it enters to World Rally Championship.
Elfyn Evans and Kalle Rovanpera have also tested the 2022 car in Finland last month while Sebastien Ogier is yet to drive this car.
"Of course, I would like to drive it", said Latvala.
"But I have to talk to Tom Fowler, he’s the one in charge of this.
"When the winter comes, I will ask Tom that I can drive.
"I want to understand what the drivers are talking about.
"I feel I can’t bring the same value if I can’t understand what they are talking about".
