Ott Tanak believes that people in Hyundai factory made some good progress in the last couple of years for Rally Finland although he did not have too high expectations for this event after taking account into the domination of Toyota there.
The Korean team made it to achieve for the first time a double podium in Finland as it had never been in the podium positions there since 2014 when it rejoined WRC.
Specifically, Ott Tanak and Craig Breen were fighting for the first place overall through the weekend and they won many stages, but eventually they did the 2-3 for Hyundai.
In fact Breen finished the first day of Rally Finland in the first position overall, but he dropped to third place at the end of the second day while Tanak was fighting for the victory with the Toyota driver, Elfyn Evans, on Saturday and on Sunday.
"Definitely we didn’t come with too high hopes, it was not really that we were favorites", Tanak said.
"Definitely the Toyota boys were the favorites so we knew where we are from.
"I think the guys at the factory made some good progress in the last two years and it’s maybe just a shame there was no Rally Finland last year where we could give our first push and gain experience because now we came for the last time with these cars.
"We managed to improve many things but not everything and this rally, if it’s not all perfect it’s a bit tricky".
