The team principal of Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT, Jari-Matti Latvala, says that he now understands the reason why he did not become a World Rally Champion in his racing career considering his drivers' concentration throughout this year.
The Finn driver has never become a Driver World Rally Champion of WRC while he was fighting very closely with Sebastien Ogier in the first of half of 2017 when he joined Toyota for the first time.
However, he was not able to fight for that year's Championship as he faced many problems with his Yaris in the second half of 2017 while he had an accident at Rally Australia.
"Watching our drivers, what they do and areas where they concentrate", Latvala said.
"It is a little bit sad to say but now I understand why I didn’t become a world champion myself when I watch these guys.
"Nice learning but at the same time a little bit sad".
Finally, he is referring to his new job he had this year as a team principal: "Everyone was aiming for the same target.
"That has been like a new world for me and managing such a big group of people.
"At the same time, we need to make sure that the drivers feel happy in the car and they can do their best performances.
"There’s been quite a lot of learning as to what I can say to the drivers and what I can say to the team and what are the right things to keep everybody motivated".
