Skoda Motorsport has decided to suspend the production of its Rally2 cars and will not accept any new orders from privateers due to supply-chain issues linked to coronavirus pandemic.
Skoda Motorsport is the most successful team in Rally2 car sales in rallying since 2014 when it produced rally cars for the first time and its drivers in WRC2 have become WRC2 champions almost every year apart from 2020 when Mads Ostberg from Citroen clinched the WRC2 title.
Despite the fact that Skoda Motorsport withdrew its factory team from WRC2 category in 2021, it supported Toksport WRT in WRC2 this season and it offered the new Fabia Rally2 evo to this team which had Andreas Mikkelsen and Marco Bulacia as its drivers.
In fact Mikkelsen clinched this year's WRC2 and ERC title with Toksport WRT and he won five times in these two series.
"The current problems being experienced by the global automotive industry and its supply chains as a result of the coronavirus pandemic are unfortunately also affecting the motorsport segment", said the statement of Skoda Motorsport.
"Despite our best efforts, the shortage of production parts is making production increasingly difficult and, in some cases, impossible to build new cars.
"These difficulties are also affecting the worldwide sale and distribution of spare parts for our rally cars, as more than 400 units have been already delivered to our customers.
"In order to ensure we can provide the appropriate care for our existing customers, we have been forced to take the difficult decision to suspend the manufacturing of new cars.
"Also, with immediate effect we sadly cannot accept any further orders for any new race cars.
"We really appreciate your understanding and apologize for the inconvenience".
