Suninen about his experience with the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC after Monza test

Teemu Suninen shares the impression he had from his first ever Hyundai test with the i20 Coupe WRC for Rally Monza admitting that the car was easy to drive and that he did not have so much time to work on it.

The Finn driver was chosen by Hyundai Motorsport to compete in next week's Rally Monza, as Ott Tanak is forced to skip WRC season finale due to personal family matters, and he completed his first ever test with Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC on Italy mountains last Friday, one day after Thierry Neuville completed his test with this car.

Suninen left M-Sport Ford with immediate efftect after the end of this season's Ypres Rally Belgium which was held on August and he drove a Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 at Rally Finland competing in WRC2 category.

One event after Rally Finland,  he took part in Rally Spain with the Hyundai i20N Rally2 car of the Korean team as a replacement of Oliver Solberg who competed in the main category of WRC in that event while he will replace Ott Tanak at Rally Monza, because Oliver Solberg will compete with the the private team 2C Competition in WRC.

"Honestly, I was surprised how fast I got a really good feeling from the car", Suninen said.

"It felt pretty easy to drive.

"It was good to be at Thierry’s test, to follow what he was doing with the car.

"It’s not fair to make a comparison with the Fiesta.

"I drove the Ford for a lot of years and the i20 for just one day.

"Like I said, I felt the chance to be at home in the car very quickly.

"It was really nice handling.

"There wasn’t so much time to work on all aspects and scenarios for the set-up; for the center differential I went with the options what the other drivers have and this felt good.

"With just a day to test, we cannot fine-tune things completely for me – I know I have to adapt a little bit with the car, but I’m looking forward to doing that".
