The team principal of M-Sport, Richard Millener, rejects the idea of his team competing in national events this year as pre-event preparations.
Hyundai Motorsport has participated in many national rallies the last years with the intention of its drivers spending more time inside their car and to get more comfortable with it.
On the other side, M-Sport Ford did not schedule a test for its drivers in 2021 due to financial problems, but this has changed this year as Craig Breen, Gus Greensmith, Sebastien Loeb and Adrien Fourmaux tested the Ford Puma Rally1 before the start of Rallye Monte Carlo and Rally Sweden.
Finally, it must be mentioned that Greensmith took part in a national rally of Norway with a Ford Fiesta Rally2, just one week before the start of Rally Sweden.
"There is probably some advantages in national events, but personally my opinion is that a national event is nice to get a bit of seat time in the car", Millener said.
"It’s difficult to do any proper testing or set-up work on those events because you’re going between the stages.
"And, regardless of what you tell your drivers, they will compare times and move into a more competitive mode than on a test.
"There are occasions when it will make sense to look at a national rally, but at this moment in time I think we’re only going to be looking at testing".
