Rovanpera to carry out Pirelli's tyre development test for Toyota

Pirelli Motorsport has started its in-season development tests with Toyota in Croatia with Kalle Rovanpera testing a new hard compound tire with his Toyota GR Yaris Rally1.

More specifically, according to the FIA regulations, Pirelli can schedule three tests during this year to test new tires which should last at least three days.

The first WRC team to run these new tires that was chosen randomly by Pirelli was Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT and Kalle Rovanpera was chosen to be the development driver.

In the next months, M-Sport Ford and Hyundai will have the chance to develop the new tires, but it is yet to confirmed when and where these tests will happen as Pirelli will choose the type of surfaces and the date.

Currently, Rovanpera is testing the new hard compound tire in Croatia and his test started on April 7 while it is expected to complete his test on April 9.

"The objective of the test in Croatia is to check how to evolve the hard tyre in line with the development of the new hybrid cars, which are heavier and more powerful than the previous generation, and so potentially more demanding on tyres", Terenzio Testoni said.

"To understand this we will be testing the new tyres with the help of Toyota’s engineers and of course Kalle, who has already shown himself to be an excellent test driver in the past".
