Esapekka Lappi is being devastated that he lost the lead of Rally Italia Sardegna due to his crash and explains what happened in this accident.
The Finn driver was leading Rally Italia Sardegna at the end of Friday just 0,7 seconds over Ott Tanak, but the first one crashed in Stage 10 when his Yaris went through a compression and pinballed between a wheel and two rocks before coming to a rest in some bushes.
This crash had a huge impact to his car as the rear left wheel and the suspension components had been ripped off his Yaris, therefore it was impossible for him to continue on Saturday.
However, Toyota mechanics repaired his car for the final day of the race and he restarted under the regulations of Rally2 targeting to score some points in Powerstage for the manufacturers' championship.
"It is pretty hard to take this one", Lappi said.
"I really felt we were not taking any risks on the stage.
"I probably should have braked less at this corner as there was stone on the ground which disturbed the line and completely and threw us of the line.
"We hit this wall and the tree on the other side.
"I believe if I braked less the front would have been higher and we could have survived.
"It is pretty hard to accept as we were not going really fast.
"This stage is tricky and very narrow and some places are pretty rough.
"I really feel comfortable in the car but these kind of things takes the confidence away and the next one rally I will attend you need to be very committed, so this is not helping".
