Kalle Rovanpera says that he is being happy with his second place at Rally Finland and admits that he tried to catch up Ott Tanak and to fight for the victory.
The Finn driver started first on the road on Friday, but he managed to stay close to his rivals and to be able to fight for the highest place of the overall classification in Finland.
However, Ott Tanak was managing his lead over the Toyota drivers and eventually won Rally Finland for the third time in his career.
On the other hand, Rovanpera finished second overall just 6,8 seconds behind the Estonian and set the fastest time in Powerstage resulting in scoring 23 points in his home event.
His second place in combination with the five extra points from Powerstage resulted in extending his advantage on drivers' championship from 83 to 94 points.
"It was a tough fight this weekend but overall I think we can be happy", Rovanpera said.
"Yesterday morning it was quite clear that it would not really be possible to catch Ott when he was taking risks which I didn’t need to take.
"So I was just trying to stay close, match his speed, and then on the Power Stage we pushed again and got the five points.
"Of course I would have liked to win at home but I think we can be quite proud of what we did given what I was expecting with the road-cleaning on Friday.
"We tried to catch up, we couldn’t quite do it but we still have a bigger points lead than before".
