At the end of the morning loop of the first day, Elfyn Evans holds a tighty lead over Ott Tanak with Thierry Neuville following them.
Elfyn Evans tops the overall classification after the end of Stage 4 setting the fastest time on the last stage of this loop.
Ott Tanak comes right behind the Toyota driver for 2,3 seconds and was the fastest driver in Stage 3 depiste the fact that he thought that something was broken on the rear. However, he had a pucture for the last 6 Km of SS2, but he managed not to lose so much time.
Thierry Neuville completes the top three and set the fastest time in Stage 2 despite the fact that he did not feel comfortable with his i20N. Moreover, he had an overshoot at 10.2 Km into SS1 as he went straight on in the braking and dropped 10,6 seconds there. Finally, he said at the end of SS3 that he had a lot of diff openings and the wheels were locking under braking.
Esapekka Lappi is fourth overall and his Yaris had a cosmetic damage to the rear right in Stage 2.
Craig Breen completes the top five and did a 360 in Stage 1 as he ran wide. As a result of that, he lost 15 seconds there.
Gus Greensmith and Oliver Solberg are sixth and seventh overall respectively and stayed out of trouble in the morning.
Adrien Fourmaux dropped from fourth to eitght place at the end of Stage 4 as he followed a survival approach in the last stage of the loop when the rain was falling. He dropped more than one minute there.
Takamoto Katsua dropped outside the top ten as he faced a gearbox problem with his Yaris before the finish of Stage 3 resulting in losing more than one minute. In addition to that, he had a big slide in the first stage while he had another overshoot in Stage 2.
Kalle Rovanpera was leading Ypres Rally after Stage 1 as he was the fastest driver in this stage and his gap over the second Evans was at 2,5 seconds. However, he had a big roll after 9.2 Km into Stage 2 as he ran wide into a ditch on the outside of a left-hander, touched a bank and afterwards his Yaris rolled five times. But it must be mentioned that SS2 was delayed and it sounded that Rovanpera and Jonne Halttunen had a conflict as the last one was angry and was yelling at the marshals. Both of them are okay, but they were not able to coninue in the next stages while it seemed that they had a problem with the front right tyre which led them to crash.
Heavy rain started falling in Stage 4 when Craig Breen was on the stage, therefore many drivers dropped time in that stage.
