Esapekka Lappi believes that he has done everything in 2022 to keep his seat in Toyota next year and feels that his pace is getting better and better when he is driving more regularly.
Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT announced at the end of 2021 that Esapekka Lappi and Sebastien Ogier will share the third GR Yaris Rally1 for this season as the last one wanted to compete in a limited number of events.
So far, the Finn driver has finished at the lowest place of the podium three times (Rally Sweden, Rally Finland, Ypres Rally Belgium) while he was fighting for the second place with Ott Tanak at Acropolis Rally Greece until the time that fuel-related issues hit his car.
Last but not least, he was leading Rally Sardinia at the end of Stage 7, but he was forced to retire in Stage 8 after having an accident.
"In the last few rallies, I think I have done everything I could to keep this seat", Lappi siad.
"We were hired to bring some points for the team and I have done that, so I think when you are looking at it like this, I think we can continue.
"I would like to do more, but this is the way it is.
"I knew it was like this when I started.
"I can feel the pace is getting better when I am driving more regularly, but now I have a holiday and will miss the next one".
