At the end of the first day, Ott Tanak is leading Rally New Zealand after Stage 1 with Craig Breen and Thierry Neuville following him.
Ott Tanak takes an early lead in New Zealand as he set the fastest time at the superspecial stage which is located in Auckland and left Craig Breen behind for nine tenths of a second.
Thierry Neuville is third overall and did not win this superspecial stage like he did in other rallies.
Takamoto Katsuta comes right behind the Belgian for four tenths of a second.
Elfyn Evans completes the top five and his gap from Tanak is at 2,2 seconds.
Kalle Rovanpera is in sixth place and dropped 2,6 seconds in comparison with Tanak as he lost time during the donuts.
Sebastien Ogier and Oliver Solberg set an identical time in SS1, but the Frenchman was faster for some thousandths of a second than the last one, therefore he is eighth overall.
