The stewards of Rally New Zealand gave to all Hyundai drivers time penalties for breaking the hybrid regulations in Stage 7.
More specifically, the energy released from Thierry Neuville's, Oliver Solberg's and Ott Tanak's i20N during Stage 7 was higher than the permitted limit with the last one using more hybrid power 19 times. On the other hand, Neuville and Solberg had more power 14 and 18 times respectively during Stage 7. Therefore, the stewards decided to give them a 10-second time penalty which means that Tanak loses more ground from the leading duo while his teammates retain their places.
The team manager of Hyundai Motorsport, Pablo Marcos, said that the engineers wanted to correct the parameters for SS4 and SS7 for all cars. They intended to do so during Service A on Thursday 29th September 2022. However, due to the limited amount of time available during Service A (15’), the engineer made the mistake of only modifying the parameters for SS4 and forgot to change those for SS7.
Last but not least, the Swede driver fined 550€ for breaking the speed limits at Reconnaissance road section as he was driving with 122 Km/h instead of 100 Km/h.
