The stewards of Rally Spain gave to Dani Sordo a time penalty for using 0.09kJ hybrid boost without valid regen on the final stage of the event.
More specifically, the Stewards received a report from the FIA Technical Delegate and discovered that car No.6 used 0.09kJ of hybrid boost more than it was permitted in Stage 19. The team manager of Hyundai Motorsport, Pablo Marcos, explained that after the start launch of SS19 the car boosted 0.08kJ without a valid regen, which is due to latency in the communication system and exceptionally hard braking. In addition to that, he stated that the team did not know that this could happen as this problem had never occured before.
The Stewards considered that, although the performance advantage was negligible, the minimum regen 30kJ value was not met in order to have an extra boost, therefore they decided to give to Dani Sordo a 5-second time penalty for this breach which does not affect his fifth place as his gap from the sixth Elfyn Evans is almost at 30 seconds before this decision.
