Julien Moncet says that Hyundai Motorsport will probable confirm its line-up for 2023 this week and reveals what kind of a driver the team is looking for.
After Ott Tanak's and Oliver Solberg's departures from Hyundai Motorsport, the Alzenau-based team faces a difficult situation for next season as it has to find the proper drivers to fill the two available Rally1 seats. It is rumored that Esapekka Lappi and Andreas Mikkelsen are very close to sign a contract with the Koreans while Kris Meeke is another driver who is on the list for the i20N seat. Dani Sordo has yet to decide if he will continue in World Rally Championship, but if he does, then for sure he wants to have a partial programme. Last but not least, the most impossible scenario is the one in which Craig Breen terminates his contract with M-Sport Ford prematurely and returns to Hyundai for 2023.
"You need the strong drivers", Moncet said.
"The car has to be competitive but without results from drivers there is nothing you can achieve.
"So we have to find the right balance of someone who’s fast, who can finish the rallies and that can understand as well the strategy around the rallies to be able to not push, or push or this kind of things
"And this is what we are looking for.
"And definitely we will try to get the best lineup for next year.
"But as I say, you have to wait a few more days.
"Not too long".
