At the end of the first day, Sebastien Ogier takes an early lead in Japan with Craig Breen and Ott Tanak following him.
Sebastien Ogier is in first place overall after the end of Stage 1 as he set the fastest time there and is one tenth of a second ahead of the second Craig Breen. Both drivers have new co-drivers alongside them in this rally.
Ott Tanak completes the top three and is 0,2 seconds far from the leader Ogier. The Estonian left his teammate Thierry Neuville behind for one tenth of a second.
The 2022 WRC Champion Kalle Rovanpera is only fifth overall and his gap from the sixth Elfyn Evans is at 0,6 seconds.
The home hero Takamoto Katsuta is 1,9 seconds behind the leader Ogier as he was the seventh fastest driver in Shakedown.
Gus Greensmith, Dani Sordo and Emil Lindholm complete the top ten.
