Teemu Suninen says that he will drive a Hyundai car in 2023, but he does not reveal which one, while he admits that the team is being happy with his test with the i20N Rally1 in Finland.
The Finn driver left with immediate effect M-Sport Ford at the end of last year's Ypres Rally Belgium and replace Ott Tanak at Rally Monza in 2021 as the last one had to be absent from this event due to family matters.
Suninen secured a WRC2 campaign with Hyundai Motorsport N and claimed his first win with i20N Rally2 at Rally Spain after the stewards of Rally Finland disqualified him from the race and lost the win of that rally due to homologation rules breach.
Since Hyundai has two available Rally1 seats for 2023, Suninen has a vantage point as he had sealed a WRC2 contract with the team for this season and helped them in the development of i20N Rally1 on fast gravel roads.
"Let’s say I have a seat for sure but not sure if it’s Rally2 or Rally1 or part-time or not,", Suninen said.
"But I think we can confirm we will drive something next year at the world championship level, so that’s at least something.
"They were really happy for the work that I did and the experience I have especially from Rally Finland because I have done it many times and I know exactly what are the needs from the car for fast rallies.
"And we were pushing the car with the same direction as the current drivers, so that was really positive".
