FIA announced the WRC calendar of 2023 yesterday which includes 13 rallies, but Middle East will not host a WRC event next year.
Although WRC Promoter and FIA expressed their interest in bringing the World Rally Championship to other regions such as Middle East, eventually this did not happen, but the penulatimate round of next year's championship will be held in three countries while Chile and Mexico returned to WRC. It is understood that Saudi Arabia will host a WRC event in 2024 and was close to seal its slot next year, but Middle East for sure will join WRC as Jordan Rally was the representative event of this region which was held in 2011.
"It is no secret that we are seriously looking to go to the Middle East for the entirely unique challenge this kind of rally will bring to the championship", read a WRC statement.
"In order to prepare a future event properly and to have sufficient time to realise this project together with all of our stakeholders, we are working very hard to have a WRC round in the Middle East in 2024".
