The team manager of Skoda Motorsport, Pavel Hortek, says that the Czech brand does not have the floor on Kris Meeke's participation in WRC2 class in 2023 as Toksport is responsible for the WRC2 programmes.
The Nothern Irish driver has helped Skoda Motorsport to develop the brand-new Fabia RS Rally2 a he has spent many hours and has done many kilometers at its cockpit. His last test with this car was on the gravel roads of Greece two months ago where Emil Lindholm had the chance to be behind the wheel of it as well, therefore the Skoda mechanics were given feedback by two different drivers.
Since Skoda Motorsport decided to exit WRC2 as a manufacturer at the end of 2016, the private team Toksport took over to represent the brand from Mlada Boleslav at the second category of World Rally Championship in 2020 and rented some Fabias from Skoda Motorsport.
"We make the cars, but Toksport is running the program and the cars on-event", Hortek said.
"We do not interfere with this.
"As our development driver, Kris is on the test for the first day to work on the set-up of the car.
"We know people thought they saw Kris coming and they thought he would be doing the rally.
"Sadly not.
"We would like to have Kris driving and I’m sure Kris would like to drive, but that’s not for us to decide.
"It’s something we will keep thinking about".
