The WRC event director, Simon Larkin, reveals that USA is one of the countries that may be included to the WRC calendar of 2024 as WRC Promoter is already in discussions with the American government.
United States hosted a rally for the first time from 1973 to 1974 where Detroit was the center of Press-on-Regardless Rally. After 12 years absence from World Rally Championship, USA came back to the calendar with Olympus Rally and Tacoma was the hosted city of this event. This rally was at the calendar from 1986 to 1988 and the last winner in United States was Miki Biasion who was behind the wheel of a Lancia Delta Integrale.
"I think by the time we get to the end of March we will have a definitive clear and succinct statement about our ambitions for a Rally USA in 2024", Larkin said.
Finally, he answered when he was asked if Rally USA is a contender to join the championship in 2024: "Absolutely, we have worked for a lot of time on this and it is getting to a make or break in terms of a location and the regional government which we are working with there.
"We hope to have a test event this year ready for 2024".
