Hyundai Motorsport and M-Sport Ford ask for answers from Pirelli Motorsport to understand the reasons why the tyres were delaminated in stages of Rally Sweden.
Craig Breen and Esapekka Lappi suffered from punctures in Stage 13 with the first one losing his leading gap over Ott Tanak at the end of that stage and dropping to second place overall. His teammate was not so lucky as the front right tyre delamination caused him a spin on the final corner of SS13 resulting in getting stuck on the snow. The spectators tried hard to unstuck Lappi's car from snow and managed it as he arrived at the finish line of SS13 with a seven-minute delay meaning that he lost his third place and dropped outside the top ten. On the other hand, Ott Tanak's front left tyre delaminated on one straight of Stage 14, but thankfully he was near the end of stage and remained the leader of Rally Sweden.
"We confirm it was a tire-related problem", Cyril Abiteboul said.
"There’s no particular comment to be made; it’s motorsport, it’s WRC.
"We have all been pushing to the limits the competitiveness of the car.
"We will be working with Pirelli overnight to try to understand what happened when we have more information in relation to the stage".
Finally, Richard Millener said: "Naturally we’re very keen for Pirelli to investigate what happened to Ott’s tire.
"We’re not about to jump to any conclusions – we can’t say definitively that we’ve had the same issues as anybody else in the service park.
"We’d like to have some feedback quickly on this and we’re working with Pirelli to figure out what caused the issue".
