The team principal of Hyundai Motorsport, Cyril Abiteboul, says that the clear target for him is to improve the team efficiency and reveals that there is a clear plan on developing the i20N Rally1 on tarmac.
Despite the third place of Thierry Neuville in Monte Carlo, the Alzenau-based team did not have a great start in 2023 as Dani Sordo and Esapekka Lappi finished seventh and eighth overall and were not able to follow their teammate. In addition to that, Hyundai drivers could not match the pace of Toyota as Neuville was the only one who managed to take two stage wins and to stop Sebastien Ogier's, Kalle Rovanpera's and Elfyn Evans's domination during the first round of this year's championship.
"I would say my target will be to improve the overall team efficiency", Abiteboul said.
"It’s not bad, but given the very long hours and routines on rallies, I think we can improve slightly our flow of processes in order to make sure there is the right level of energy and focus at the times when it matters.
"That can have an impact on the performance of the team overall at the end of the weekend.
"We need to come up with a response with a clear development roadmap to the car in order to make it more competitive, in particular on asphalt.
"So far, we've only seen asphalt.
"It will be interesting to see the competitiveness of the car on a different surface, but that’s medium to long-term".
