The technical director of Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT, Tom Fowler, reveals that the team has not tested the GR Yaris Rally2 on gravel yet and believes that this will be an important step considering the fact that the majority of rallies are being held on gravel.
The Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 made its first appearance at Rally Japan last year where Juha Kankkunen and Tommi Makinen had the chance to drive it in two tarmac stages of that event. The Japanese car brand presented a concept Toyota GR Yaris Rally2 at Tokyo Auto Saloon a month ago while it is tipped that this Rally2 car will be ready from 2025. So far, the team has done tests on snow while the first test on tarmac was scheduled in France a few weeks ago.
"It’s going forwards quite well", Fowler said.
"We’ve done some snow work because we could more easily in winter.
"And we’ve done some Tarmac and not so much as we need to on gravel, so I would say the most important step now is to get the gravel car.
"Because, you know, there’s so many people using these cars for gravel events around the world, it’s the predominant market really so that’s the next big hurdle".
