The technical director of Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT, Tom Fowler, says that his team has completed its test programme on tarmac for GR Yaris Rally2 development and that Kalle Rovanpera and Juho Hanninen had the chance to drive it.
The Japanese team announced that they are thinking of expanding their industrial action by introducing a Rally2 car which will be available for rental from 2025. They have already presented a GR Yaris Rally2 concept car at Tokyo Auto Salon two months ago while they brought this car at Rallye Monte Carlo. Juho Hanninen is the development driver for this car and has already tested it on snow and tarmac, but it must be mentioned that he had developed the Yaris WRC and GR Yaris Rally1. The tarmac test was held in France last month where Kalle Rovanpera joined his compatriot during this test and both of them gave valuable feedback to the mechanics. According to DirtFish's sources one month ago, Toyota has not completed a gravel test for GR Yaris Rally2 yet, but it may be scheduled later this year.
"Juho has done most of the miles in the car and is, of course, our test and development driver", Fowler said.
"Having Kalle come into the car validates much of what Juho’s saying, but it also gives us a different take on different aspects of the car.
"Every driver is different and wants different things from a car – the nature of the GR Yaris Rally2 is that it will be driven by a variety of drivers, so we need to have a car which is going to work on different levels".
