Thierry Neuville and Esapekka Lappi are talking about the possibility of Hyundai's decision to play tactic games at Rally Mexico after what Cyril Abiteboul said to DirtFish.
Hyundai Motorsport decided to give team orders to Craig Breen at Rally Sweden in favor Thierry Neuville who is one of the title contenders for this season. Despite the fact that this decision did not pay off as the Belgian had a spin at Powerstage and lost some time in comparison with his teammate, Abiteboul is thinking of this option again for Rally Mexico, but this time the Koreans will sacrifice Lappi who has a full-time contract as Neuville has as well. However, it must be mentioned that the last one will start third on the road on Friday whereas Lappi will drive throughout these stages just three drivers after Neuville.
"In Sweden there was this opportunity because Craig was just in front and he’s not doing the championship, Lappi would have been another story for sure so early in the championship", Neuville said.
"But I have to focus on my own race.
"If I can keep within the fight for victory on Friday, then Saturday we should have a better road position and everything is open.
"But Friday will be decisive to how my weekend goes".
On the other hand, Lappi said about the possibility of Cyril Abiteboul deciding to give team orders: "Well in the end it’s my boss who says that, so I think we need to listen to what he’s saying".
