Wilson: M-Sport Ford has work to do to get stronger

The team boss of M-Sport Ford, Malcolm Wilson, says that his team has work to do to become stronger with the view of offering a proper car to Ott Tanak and believes that they do not have to change some things in terms of performance.

M-Sport Ford became the first WRC team which scored the first victory in hybrid championship as Sebastien Loeb was the winner driver in Monte Carlo last year. Ever since, the Cumbria-based team did not win a WRC event until Ott Tanak joined them in 2023. The 2019 WRC Champion managed to finish at the highest place of the podium at Rally Sweden this month despite the fact that he was the fastest driver in only one stage. He is currently leading the drivers' championship with 41 points and will start first on the road at Rally Mexico.

"It has been great to achieve a result like that but we know there are still a lot of things we need to improve", Wilson said.

"I will admit there is no question we have work to do but it is work that we can do.

"I believe we can get stronger.

"There are a few things we need to look at.

"We will be working flat out to give Ott what he wants.

"You are so limited with what you can do due to the homologation rules but there are things we can do within the technical regs to really just make him more comfortable in the car.

"I would say performance-wise we know we are okay.

"Ourselves and Toyota are a little bit slower on top speed which you could see on some of the stages in Sweden but this event is quite unique".
