Chris Ingram reveals that he changed his WRC2 plan for 2023 after his participation in Monte Carlo saying that his goal is to get behind the wheel of the new Skoda for the rest of the season.
The British driver started an online funding for his WRC2 campaign of this year and it was uncertain if he would compete at Rallye Monte Carlo last January as he could not secure the required budget for this event. It was expected that his next outing would be at Rally Croatia this month, but he decided to skip this tarmac round of the championship due to the fact that he wants to drive the new Skoda Fabia RS Rally2. Finally, it must be mentioned that he took part with the Fabia evo Rally2 in the stages of Rallye Monte Carlo, which is the previous generation of Fabia RS, meaning that he was not able to match the times of the others Skoda drivers and eventually finished sixth overall in WRC2 standings.
"It’s plain and simple, I need to get in the new car because it’s been so dominant", Ingram said.
"I felt in Monte I drove well and my times reflected that.
"My times compared to last year’s times on the comparable stages with the same, dry conditions, I would have been fastest on pretty much all of them.
"But the new cars have just gone to another level, so my result just wasn’t the result I wanted or that gave my driving justice.
"I couldn’t afford for that to happen again in Croatia so I need to get in the new car.
"It’s a bit of a shame because last year I went well in Croatia.
"I was second early on, but then got a few punctures.
"On the last day I set that third overall time among the Rally1 cars on the penultimate stage.
"I just cannot afford to go and do rallies now and not be at least competing for a podium".
