Esapekka Lappi says the reliable Hyundai i20N gives him boost to perform well in rallies and admits that the people back in the factory are working very hard.
The Finn driver secured his maiden podium with Hyundai Motorsport in Croatia last month as he finished third overall while he was fighting with Ott Tanak and Craig Breen for the victory of Rally Sweden last February. In addition to that, he was leading Rally Mexico at the end of Friday, but he was forced to retire from the rest of the event when he went off the road in Stage 11 and hit a pole with his car. In general, he has not faced any technical or mechanical issue with his i20N so far in 2023, but he is struggling to find the proper set-up in the stages and this can be proved by his stage times in rallies, such as Monte Carlo and Croatia.
"In Croatia we didn’t have any issues, and in Mexico we had no issues either apart from hitting a pole - but that’s not really a reliability issue", Lappi said.
"In Sweden we also had nothing, so it looks to be good.
"I believe everyone in the factory is working flat out and always trying to design some new things that we can try in the tests, because for sure we want to develop the car as well and make better performance".
