Hyundai Portugal announced that James Fulton will navigate Kris Meeke at Portuguese championship starting from Rally de Portugal which will host the fifth WRC round next week.
The Irishman co-driver was supposed to be alongside Craig Breen after his return to Hyundai Motorsport in 2023 while at the same time they would compete in national rallies of Portuguese Championship with the i20N Rally2. Unfortunately, the life had another plans for Breen as he lost suddenly his life during their tests for Croatia Rally last month. Fulton was next to Breen when the latter died on the spot, but he did not get injured from their accident which happened near Lobor. It was uncertain if Fulton would return to action as the fatal crash happened one month ago, but eventually he decided to continue what he and Breen left unfinished, therefore he will navigate Meeke for their national outing replacing Ola Floene.
"It was a very difficult time, but I now feel ready to come back", Fulton said.
"It wasn’t an easy decision, but after talking to my family and Craig’s family, we felt this was what Craig would want.
"I started this challenge with him and I feel the best way to honor him is to finish what we started together".
