Official: Hyundai appoints Demaison as new technical director

Hyundai Motorsport announced Francois-Xavier Demaison as its new technical director for 2023 and he will start working for them from 1 June.

Francois-Xavier Demaison was the technical director of Williams F1 Team from 2021 to 2022, but he is very familiar with the WRC, because he had been the chief engineer at Subaru World Rally Team from March 2006 and afterwards he joined the Citroen Junior Team for two seasons (2008-2009) as a senior engineer. After his departure from Citroen, he became technical director for Petter Solberg World Rally Team (2010) while he helped Volkswagen Motorsport in building the Polo R. His duties at Hyundai will include his involvement at WRC, Customer Racing and TCR as well as at electric motorsport programmes.

"I am tremendously excited to start this new role with Hyundai Motorsport", Demaison said.

"It is clear that Hyundai has fantastic potential in the motorsport realm, both in existing endeavours and also looking to future initiatives, especially electric motorsport programmes.

"My remit is to enhance and grow the capabilities of the Hyundai Motorsport operation to be one of the best globally.

"I relish this challenge and look forward to working with the personnel who have already achieved great things in WRC and their customer racing programmes".
