At the end of Thursday, Esapekka Lappi is leading Rally Italia Sardegna after the superspecial stage in Olbia with Ott Tanak and Thierry Neuville following him.
Esapekka Lappi kept his momentum after the Shakedown session earlier today and once again set the fastest time which means that he is the leader of Rally Sardinia after the SS1.
Ott Tanak comes right behind Lappi for only two tenths of a second and looked down to his dashboard after the end of SS1. According to the WRC+ commentators, the M-Sport Ford driver mentioned a potential right rear puncture.
Thierry Neuville completes the 1-3 for Hyundai Motorsport and left Takamoto Katsuta behind for 0,4 seconds.
The championship leader Kalle Rovanpera is in fifth place overall after the end of this superspecial stage and has a difficult job on Friday as he will clean the roads tomorrow morning.
One tenth of a second separated Sebastien Ogier from his teammate Rovanpera at the end of Stage 1 and the Frenchman aims to break another record in World Rally Championship by taking his fifth victory for this event.
Dani Sordo is seventh overall on his third outing of the season with the Hyundai i20N Rally1 and wants to win in Sardinia again.
Elfyn Evans and Pierre-Louis Loubet are in eighth and ninth place overall respectively.
