Elfyn Evans is being of the opinion that a driver to be successful in Estonia needs to be very committed and trust his pacenotes while he is being hopeful that his pre-event preparations went well last week.
The Welshman is in second place overall on drivers' standings, 41 points behind his teammate Kalle Rovanpera, before the start of the eighth WRC round. Generally, Rally Estonia is an event that suits to Toyota drivers as their main rival, Hyundai, is struggling to find pace on fast gravel rallies. However, Takamoto Katsuta, Evans and Rovanpera may benefit from Yaris's upgrades in Estonia next week as their team will bring some power unit improvements for this rally.
Evans has never won in Estonia as he has only one podium finish (2nd place in 2022) there, but he has always managed to be at top five, even when this event was running as a promotional one in World Rally Championship in 2019, a year before Rally Estonia officially secured its slot to WRC calendar.
"Estonia brings a complete change of territory and with it a change of mentality", Evans said.
"We’re coming off the back of some rough and relatively low-speed rallies and moving onto extremely high-speed and smooth gravel, and these next events are all about confidence and commitment behind the wheel.
"As a driver, you need to have trust in your pacenotes and also have a good feeling with the car, so we were working hard during our pre-event test last week to try and get everything right.
"Hopefully we can go into it feeling good from the beginning and really enjoy the driving, which is really key to performing well on a rally like this one".
