Elfyn Evans is being of the opinion that he still has the chance to fight with Kalle Rovanpera for this year's driver title despite the fact that the last one is in great form this season and admits that he will not stop trying until the end.
The Welshman remains in second place overall on the drivers' standings and is now 33 points behind his teammate before the start of Rally Chile. With three rounds remaining until the season finale, Rovanpera must score 27 points more than Evans this weekend to claim his second title in WRC, but the Finn has a difficult job to do as he has to clean the roads this Friday which means that he possibly drops time in comparison with his rivals. So far, Evans has won only two events (Rally Croatia, Rally Finland) whereas the 2022 WRC Champion has three victories (Rally de Portugal, Rally Estonia, Acropolis Rally) and 64 stage wins.
"It is a big gap and it inevitably needs to come down if we want to have chance to do it at the end of the year", Evans said.
"It is not impossible but we start to go into the territory where Kalle will need to make a little error here or there.
"We are going to have to win some rallies.
"Of course, it’s still all to fight for and we’re going to keep giving everything until it’s not possible at the end of the year.
"That is what we are here for.
"Of course, Kalle’s driving extremely well at the moment and there’s no doubt that he’s going to be difficult to catch with the speed he’s got at the moment, but it doesn’t mean we won’t stop trying".
