The team principal of Hyundai Motorsport, Cyril Abiteboul, says that Teemu Suninen is on the team's radar for the next year's driver line-up after what he achieved on his four outings with the i20N.
After Craig Breen's passing, Hyundai Motorsport was looking for a driver to share the third Rally1 car with Dani Sordo as the Spaniard did not want to take part in all events this year. The Alzenau-based team gave the chance to Suninen to return back to the top level as he competed in Estonia and Finland where he finished fifth and fourth overall respectively. He handed another opportunity for Rally Chile where he was fighting for the lead with Ott Tanak, but eventually he crashed out from the second place after his damaging the front right suspension. His last outing with the i20N Rally1 of the season was at Central European Rally and it was his first appearance with the car on tarmac finished one place far from the top five. Last but not least, it must be mentioned that his manager, Timo Jouhki, had said that Suninen has already signed a seven-rally programme with Hyundai for next year, but so far only Ott Tanak and Thierry Neuville were confirmed by the Koreans for 2024.
"Look Teemu is very much on the radar but I can't say anything in particular", Abiteboul said.
"He is very much part of our list so we have to now get together with the rest of the team and have a look at what has happened and make a collective decision for the way forward".
