Rally Japan - 3rd Day - 2nd Loop: Evans controls his lead, Katsuta reels in Tanak with 3 stage wins



At the end of Saturday afternoon, Toyota still holds the top three positions at Rally Japan with Elfyn Evans still leading and Sebastien Ogier and Kalle Rovanpera following him.

Elfyn Evans remains the rally leader at Rally Japan with six stages remaining until the end of the final WRC round.

Sebastien Ogier is still second overall despite the fact that his teammate Kalle Rovanpera took back 16,6 seconds in Stage 14.

The 2023 WRC Champion completes the 1-2-3 for Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT and said that he did not have something to fight for as he his gap from Ogier is at 25,6 seconds.

Esapekka Lappi keeps the fourth place at the overall classification and thought that he would not get the hard tyres up to the temperature for the beginning of Stage 15. He was the fastest driver in Stage 16.

Ott Tanak and Takamoto Katsuta gained one place after the end of Stage 13 while both of them overtook Andreas Mikkelsen on the classification after the end of Stage 14 which means that they are in fifth and sixth position respectively.

The Japanese driver of Toyota set the fastest time on the first three afternoon stages and his aim is to finish in fourth place overall.

Andreas Mikkelsen, Gregoire Munster, Nikolay Gryazin and Kajetan Kajetanowicz complete the top ten.

Thierry Neuville is outside the top ten and stated at the end of SS14 that he was trying some new things with his car's set-up for 2024. In addition to that, he had no hybrid boost in Stage 15 and said that he needed it in a stage like that.
