FIA and WRC Promoter announced today that Rally Islas Canarias will be included to the calendar of 2025 which means that it will be the first visit of World Rally Championship on the Spanish islands.
Rally Islas Canarias has been a round of the European Rally Championship since 2012 and has become the second ERC rally that joins WRC after the recent add of Rally Latvia at this year's calendar. The Spanish organizers have reached an agreement with FIA and WRC Promoter for the next two years which means that the contract will be valid until the end of 2026. This event provides a breathtaking spectacle to the rallying fans with its fast tarmac stages. This year's Rally Islas Canarias will be held on May 2-4 as the second ERC round and it remains to be seen which tarmac WRC round will be thrown out the calendar in 2025.
"Since adding the European Rally Championship to our portfolio of championships, we have been left with little doubts about the capabilities of the rally management team to run this rally next year on the WRC calendar", the WRC Promoter managing director, Jona Siebel, said.
"We are enthusiastic about having Spain back on the WRC calendar and are encouraged to see our clearly defined strategy to have an opportunity for ERC events to have a pathway to WRC coming to fruition for Rally Islas Canarias".
