Hyundai hopes Neuville's Kenya issues will not be repeated in Croatia

The team principal of Hyundai Motorsport, Cyril Abiteboul, believes that his team will give to Thierry Neuville a right car for Croatia Rally and reveals that his fuel issues were related to the conditions of Safari Rally.

The Belgian driver climbed to the second place overall after the end of Stage 10 in Kenya, but he dropped to fifth in Stage 11 as he stopped multiple times in SS11 due to the fuel pressure issues. In fact, the main fuel pump failed, thus he had to switch to the backup pump and completed the stage in EV mode. His problems continued throughout the afternoon loop of Saturday as he was driving slowly on the stages until the end of the penultimate day of Safari Rally. Hyundai Motorsport said that they would investigate Neuville's issues after the end of Safari Rally and now Abiteboul reveals that his driver's fuel issues were related to the rough conditions of Kenyan roads.

"We will try to make sure Thierry has the right car", Abiteboul said.

"He had lots of issue in Kenya and most of them have been well addressed and understood.

"There is no particular reason to see them happen here again, but we also saw that it was a bit of a snowball effect from Friday.

"The first thing we need is to have a clean Friday.

"We still have quite a few explanations as to what happened in Kenya.

"It is one of those things that is difficult to completely reproduce once you are not in Kenya anymore with the conditions we had there.

"We think the fuel system issues were related to the conditions and we have made some changes and we have made a contingency plan to make sure it doesn’t happen again, but let’s see".
