Kalle Rovanpera explains his crash in Stage 11 of Rally de Portugal saying that he accepts his mistake, but he still is thinking of what happened yesterday.
The two-time WRC Champion was the leader of Rally Portugal at the end of Stage 10, but he ran wide after a corner in Stage 11 resulting in rolling his Yaris 3.8 Km into SS11 and getting stuck into a ditch. Despite the hard impact of his car into the trees, the Toyota mechanics managed to fix his Yaris for the final day of the rally, but he has to open the roads today and his target is the points in Powerstage considering his road position on Sunday. Rovanpera was chasing his second victory of the season and his hat trick in Portugal, but he was forced to retire after his crash after his having won only two stages until his accident in SS11.
"Yesterday morning started well", Rovanpera said.
"We definitely had a better feeling yesterday with the car setup and could do a good time in the first stage.
"But then in the second one I just missed my braking point in a fairly straightforward place and we went off.
"There was a bit of confusion with the pacenote in the previous corner and I was maybe still thinking about that and missed the braking point.
"But it was my mistake in the end and it’s a big disappointment – especially when we started strongly, and I think it could have been a good day for us".
