M-Sport Ford calls Sesks's performance "mega", but needs to keep a low profile

The team principal of M-Sport Ford, Richard Millener, believes that Martins Sesks's performance was mega in Poland and praises his achievements, but at the same time the team must be calm considering the fact that it was only his first appearance in World Rally Championship.

Sesks became the first WRC driver, who drove a non-hybrid Rally1 car at the top level, and was supported by WRC Promoter to make his WRC debut. More specifically, Rally Poland was the first outing of the Latvian at the premier class and will compete with the hybrid Ford Puma Rally1 on his home event making two consecutive appearances in WRC. Everyone was impressed by his performance last week as he managed to end Friday morning on the second place and behind the first Andreas Mikkelsen for 7,4 seconds while he set the second-fastest time in Stage 2. In addition to these achievements, Thierry Neuville was chasing him for the fifth place on Saturday, but eventually Sesks was able to keep the championship leader behind for only one tenth of a second and stole his valuable points for his WRC title bid. Finally, Sesks completed the top five on his WRC debut as Mikkelsen lost four places and dropped to sixth on Sunday after his suffering from a puncture in Stage 16.

"It’s definitely special", Millener said.

"We’ve seen youngsters come in and score some incredible stage times, but to do it consistently all weekend and by Sunday you’re kind of watching his times, expecting him to be on Thierry’s pace is a little bit crazy, but it’s what happened.

"There’s a lot of other factors.

"He knows these events very well.

"He’s driven on these roads all his life, so he knows better than ever the conditions and how slippery it can be and how to drive.

"Irrespective of that, just a mega performance.

"I think we need to just… I don’t want to be negative, but I think we just need to temper excitement a little bit.

"Fantastic result for him, what he’s achieved there beating the regulars is incredible, so let’s just take one day at a time".
