Adrien Fourmaux believes that M-Sport Ford must improve further the engine of the Puma Rally1, but he still feels confident for Rally Finland despite the detection of his car disadvantage.
Fourmaux and Martins Sesks have proved that the Ford Puma Rally1 can be a very competitive car against the Hyundai i20N and the Toyota GR Yaris Rally1 as both of them have claimed some stage wins and were in the fight for the podium positions. In fact, the #1 driver of the Malcolm Wilson's team has finished three times at the lowest place of the podium whereas Sesks had shown impressive pace with the non-hybrid and the hybrid Puma in Poland and in Latvia respectively. However, it must be mentioned that M-Sport Ford is a semi-manufacturer team and the lowest budget compared to Hyundai Motorsport and Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT as the last two are factory teams. Ford Performance supports M-Sport Ford only for the development of Puma Rally1 which means that the British team is viable due to its sponsors. Last but not least, it must be mentioned that M-Sport Ford is running with two regular drivers for this season as Sesks competed with the Puma thanks to the WRC Promoter and his sponsors whereas Jourdan Serderidis afforded to rent the third car of the team in order to make an outing in World Rally Championship at Safari Rally Kenya four months ago.
"I think we need to develop a little bit more the engine", Fourmaux said.
"The rest I’m quite confident.
"For Finland, you still need the engine, that’s for sure, but there is also much more corners, crest, etc than here, sometimes it’s just flat out for two kms.
"So I’m much more confident for Finland than I was for this rally".
