The team principal of M-Sport Ford, Richard Millener, says that the team will try to find a solution on offering to Martins Sesks another outing with the Puma Rally1 as he has proved his skills, but it will be difficult since his two WRC participations were due to his sponsors and WRC Promoter.
The Latvian driver made his WRC debut with the non-hybrid Ford Puma Rally1 at Rally Poland where he finished at the top five which is his best WRC result so far. In addition to that, he was second overall at the end of Friday morning behind the rally leader Andreas Mikkelsen a month ago as he set the second-fastest time. From Friday to Saturday, Sesks was fighting for the podium places against the best WRC drivers in the world on his home event, but he eventually dropped to seventh at the end of Powerstage due to the fact that his hybrid Puma Rally1 suffered from a transmission issue just 600 meters into Powerstage and lost his maiden podium in World Rally Championship as Ott Tanak was 4,6 seconds behind him at the end of SS19. Last but not least, it must be mentioned that WRC Promoter got in touch with M-Sport Ford in order to support Sesks on making his participation in WRC while he became the first WRC driver who got behind the wheel of a non-hybrid Rally1 car.
"I would love to do something and I will certainly spend a bit of time trying to see what's possible", Millener answered when he if there is a chance Sesks could return for more outings with the team.
"I have to be honest, M-Sport didn’t fund any of this.
"We just helped with the car and we got the budget as low as possible to get it done.
"Other partners in the WRC Promoter and Martins partners made this happen.
"If we could find a way to get him involved again, it would be great.
"He's proven in two rallies you can keep up with WRC guys.
"I think you would definitely consider him if you had the opportunity.
"He’s just worked very well when I was with the team, everybody and his approach and his attitude and his charisma and the way he does the stage-end interviews and how he is with the fans.
"There are a lot of new Martins Sesks fans at the minute".
