Sesks describes his Powerstage issue on his home event

Martins Sesks is talking about what happened during the Powerstage a day ago which costed him a podium finish in front of his compatriots.

The Latvian driver continued to impress the community of rallying with his performance for a second consecutive WRC round as Rally Latvia was his second outing at the top level and was his first one behind the wheel of the hybrid Ford Puma Rally1. He claimed his maiden stage win in World Rally Championship in Stage 3 of Rally Latvia and totally has two stage wins on his name while he was second overall from SS3 to SS10 keeping Sebastien Ogier behind at third place. He slipped behind Ogier for 0,2 seconds at the end of Stage 11, but he made three mistakes during last weekend, two of them happened on Sunday as he went wide in two junctions. Ott Tanak was trying to catch him for the third place on Saturday, but Sesks managed to finish at the top three on that day. However, Tanak attacked on the final day of Rally Latvia as he was the fastest driver in SS18 and SS19 resulting in decreasing their gap to 4,6 seconds before the start of the Powerstage, but Sesks's podium dream ended in a harsh way in PS as he lost more than one minute in that stage due to the fact that his Puma carried a transmission issue just 600 meters into SS20. As a consequence of that, Sesks lost the chance to be at the lowest place of the podium in front of his home crowd and dropped four places which means that eventually he finished seventh.

"It was a launch start and it was 600 meters and it was a right-hander, a hairpin", Sesks said.

"Everything was fine for the 600 meters.

"Then we turned into the right-hander, first gear and second, and then something snapped and we almost didn’t make it to the next corner.

"Because at that moment you don’t understand what’s happening, but straight after that you know that it’s done.

"You just need to finish and limp mode back".
