The team principal of M-Sport Ford, Richard Millener, says that Adrien Fourmaux finished at the podium positions due to his clever and mature drive during Rally Finland and reveals that they did not expect to celebrate a podium last week.
The Frenchman did not test the Ford Puma Rally1 for Rally Finland as M-Sport Ford did not schedule a pre-event test for the ninth WRC round, thus Fourmaux was struggling with his car and to find pace in the stages. More specifically, he was trying different settings on the mornings and was much quicker on the second passes as he knew which things his mechanics should change at the midday service for the second loop. Generally, he avoided making mistakes at Rally Finland apart from Stage 17 where he lost the rear of his Puma as one cut pushed him a bit wide, but he managed to secure his fourth podium of the season taking advantage over Kalle Rovanpera's retirement in Stage 19. Last but not least, Forumaux remains fifth on the championship standings with 119 points and is just 13 points behind the leader Thierry Neuville.
“On Sunday morning, I was not expecting to be celebrating a fourth podium for Adrien and Alex but it has been a very pleasant surprise after quite a tough weekend", Millener said.
"Adrien has struggled with the setup of the car over the weekend and the weather conditions have not made it any easier, however a very mature and clever drive has meant he has taken his fourth podium finish of the season, something he and Alex should be very proud of".
