Hyundai fined for exceeding speed limits while testing the wipers on Tanak's car

The stewards of Rally Finland gave to Hyundai Motorsport a fine as a team member exceeded the speed limits when he tested the Ott Tanak's car to see if the wipers are working properly.

More specifically, the three i20Ns faced a problem with the wipers during Rally Latvia, thus a member of Hyundai drove the car of Tanak to test if the wipers are working properly ahead of Rally Finland. Safety Tracking device recorded a maximum speed of 172 km/h in a zone where the speed limit is 100 km/h. As a consequence of that, the stewards heard from Hyundai's lead engineer, Tolga Ozakinci, who explained that they faced a problem with the wipers during Rally Latvia two weeks ago and a mechanic went out with the car in order to try the function of the wipers. In addition to that, he added that this person was more focused on checking the wipers' function than on the allowed speed. The Stewards conclude that while the team member is obligated to adhere to the Code and regulations, it equally places the onus on the Competitor for responsibilit for the actions of their team members, thus Hyundai must pay a fine of 5.000 euros for this breach.
