Indonesia may rejoin WRC from 2026

According to AG Rally sources, it is rumored that Indonesia may make its return back to the World Rally Championship from 2026 as this event is absent from the sport since 1997.

WRC visited Indonesia for the first time back in 1996 while 1997 was the last year where this country hosted a round in World Rally Championship. Carlos Sainz won both versions of Rally Indonesia with the Ford Escort RS Cosworth and is the only winner of this Asian event. The Indonesian government wants to invest in many motorsport series the upcoming years including the World Rally Championship while FIA and Rally Indonesia's organizers are already in discussions for the WRC calendar of 2026. In addition to that, it must be mentioned that the Indonesian entrepreneur, Putra Rizky Bustaman, has bought the non-hybrid Puma recently, which was driven by Martins Sesks at Rally Poland two months ago, and became the second customer of M-Sport Ford as Jourdan Serderidis was the first person who purchased the hybrid Ford Puma Rally1 with the view of adding it on his car collection.
