Toyota is thinking of slowing Pajari down to help Evans on the WRC title bid

The team principal of Toyota Gazoo Racing WRT, Jari-Matti Latvala, says that his team is considering the possibility of giving team orders to Sami Pajari with the view of helping Elfyn Evans to score as many points as he can from Saturday classification.

The Welshman was in second position overall at the end of Stage 11 and managed to increase further his gap over the third Sebastien Ogier from 0,6 to 3,5 seconds, but he lost three places in Stage 12 as he had a half spin and suffered from transmission issues. Although he and Scott Martin tried to repair their car on the road section before the start of Stage 13, they completed the longest stage of Rally Finland after four minutes which means that he slipped behind Sami Pajari and the two WRC2 leaders at the end of the first pass from Ouninpojha stage. Evans and Martin will start Saturday afternoon from the eighth place and will try to take some positions back on the second loop of Saturday in order not to lose so many points compared to Thierry Neuville and Sebastien Ogier who are in the fight for this year's championship.

"There is a possibility of course that you could drop Sami behind Elfyn", Latvala said.

"It’s something I’m sure Kaj, Tom and Haruna, are considering of course, thinking about that position.

"It’s never nice but when you have a technical thing, which is coming to play a role and taking your points away and when Sami is doing only one event, I think it’s something now that we could consider to exercise at the end of the evening if you want to think about the championship for Elfyn".
